The 3rd Grade News Sept. 6, 2011
Important Information:
We would like to thank all of the parents who came to Teachers and Take-0ut. We will have more information on parent teacher conferences in the coming weeks.
Thursday night at 6:00 your child will be performing at our 3rd and 4th grade music program. Please have your child show up around 5:45.
Book fair opened last Friday and will run until this Friday. The book fair will be open at 5:00 on Thursday if you want to shop before the music program. It will also be open after the music program.
We started MAP testing today. We will also take MAP tests on Thursday and Friday. As you know these tests are very important because we structure our teaching to your child’s individual needs. In the next week or two your child will probably come home and talk about MIND time. MIND time is a time when we work on your child’s individual needs and what he or she will need to be a successful student and make gains on his or her MAP tests.
Make sure to sign your child’s agenda every night.
The only homework I am requiring is that your child read something for at least 15 minutes a night. If your child does not have books at home they may read their library book or check out a book from our classroom libraries.

Please remember to visit our blog at superteacher1.blogspot.com. I am still working on updating the blog, but there are several sites that your child can explore.
• Your child can take AR test every morning between 7:30 and 7:55. We do not have a lot of down time during the day to take tests, so please remind them in the mornings to take some tests.
Thank you,
Mr. Williams

The 3rd Grade News August 22, 2011
Important Information:
I want to thank you all for the smooth start of the year. I have been doing this for 13 years and I have to say this has been the best start I’ve ever had. Your children are working hard and things are going great. As long as they keep working hard I will stick with just 15 minutes a night of reading. We occasionally will have a few worksheets a week.
We have a math test tomorrow over rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. They have been working really hard in class and I can’t wait to see how they do.
We also have a science test tomorrow over static electricity. I hope your child has been coming home and talking about the experiments we have been doing.
Please try to turn in any field trip money by the end of the month.
If you can afford to send any packaged candy, I would greatly appreciate it.
Make sure to sign your child’s agenda every night.
Aug. 30th is Teachers and Takeout
Sept. 2nd starts the book fair.
In math we are going to continue with place value.
In science we are going to start a unit on magnets.
The only homework I am requiring is that your child read something for at least 15 minutes a night. If your child does not have books at home they may read their library book or check out a book from my classroom library.

Brain Pop
Parents,
If your child is really interested in science I have a great website that you should try out. The website is brainpop.com. The site has videos, games and even activities you can do at home.
