The only homework I am requiring is that your child read something for at least 15 minutes a night. If your child does not have books at home they may read their library book or check out a book from our classroom libraries. Please make sure they bring our classroom library books back to school each day.

• Your child can take AR test every morning between 7:30 and 7:55. We do not have a lot of down time during the day to take tests, so please remind them in the mornings to take some tests.

Making a flashlight

Your children were given 3 rubber bands, a ruler, 3 wires, a clothespin, battery, battery holder, light bulb holder and a light bulb and told to make a flashlight. I was very impressed with their teamwork and creativity. Here is a picture of Xavier and the flashlight his team built.

Try these at home

Parents,
I have two great websites that I would like for your child to work on at home. Both of these websites are set up to help your children become proficient third grade students. The websites are located on the right side of the blog.

click on compass and the children put in their username and password. Make sure the bottom has the letters oisd listed.

click on ixl and your child will put in his username and password. Your child then can scroll down to third grade and click on any skill they would like to work on. The cool thing about this site is that it sends me a report on how well your child is doing.

Please remember your child needs to have in $6 for our field trips. This $6 covers all three field trips.

News for the Week

The 3rd Grade News Sept. 6, 2011
Important Information:
 We would like to thank all of the parents who came to Teachers and Take-0ut. We will have more information on parent teacher conferences in the coming weeks.
 Thursday night at 6:00 your child will be performing at our 3rd and 4th grade music program. Please have your child show up around 5:45.
 Book fair opened last Friday and will run until this Friday. The book fair will be open at 5:00 on Thursday if you want to shop before the music program. It will also be open after the music program.
 We started MAP testing today. We will also take MAP tests on Thursday and Friday. As you know these tests are very important because we structure our teaching to your child’s individual needs. In the next week or two your child will probably come home and talk about MIND time. MIND time is a time when we work on your child’s individual needs and what he or she will need to be a successful student and make gains on his or her MAP tests.
 Make sure to sign your child’s agenda every night.
The only homework I am requiring is that your child read something for at least 15 minutes a night. If your child does not have books at home they may read their library book or check out a book from our classroom libraries.

Working With The IPAD

Today the third grade boys were the first group of students to use the Cravens IPADS! They boys worked in group and had the chance to play different math and spelling games. I think we will be using the IPADS to further develop their understanding of math concepts.
